Jennifer (ZhangWei) Carroll, Mandarin

Jennifer has been teaching Mandarin Chinese to Siskiyou School children for the last 20 years. It all began when Mr. McGlone, the Jade Class teacher of one of her sons, asked if she would teach some Mandarin to his class. Soon other teachers wanted the same for their students. Now Mandarin is firmly one of the two world languages studied by the all the students from 1st through 5th grade. Jennifer was born and raised in China. She received her B.A in English Literature from Shanghai International Studies University in 1992 and continued to work as a translator until 1999.

She met her husband, Robert while he was working in Shanghai. They have four children, all of who, attended the Siskiyou School. Jennifer enjoys exercise, taiko drumming, cooking, reading and quiet moments. She finds it deeply fulfilling to share her culture with the children through creative activities, music, stories and food.
