Christy Bartow, Class 2 Teacher

Christy began officially working with children at the age of fourteen in Sonoma County, California, teaching swim lessons to children of all ages and abilities. She spent six years teaching and lifeguarding, advancing to head lifeguard and eventually becoming a lead instructor for the Life Guard Academy. Christy worked as an EMT in Oakland and San Francisco until moving to Oregon. Once in Oregon, she worked in operating rooms across Southern Oregon, assisting in surgeries and post-op recoveries.

After her daughter was born, she shifted her focus back to education. Christy enrolled in Rogue Community College and especially enjoyed classes in early childhood education and children’s literature. She worked at Helman Elementary School wearing many hats, assisting in grades K-6 and training under and working alongside the reading specialist for grades K-4. Christy began working at Children’s World Montessori teaching the cooking class and then teaching for eleven years. There at Children’s World she was trained and mentored by teachers with a variety of backgrounds in Montessori education, Waldorf education, and Reggio Emilia education. During those years, Christy took hours of additional trainings and workshops and learned to play the autoharp and ukulele, and incorporating American Sign Language into her teaching which she began learning while still in college in Sonoma County, California.

In the fall of 2022 Mrs. Bartow began assisting in the first grade classroom at the Siskiyou School, learning Waldorf education first hand under the guidance of our founding teacher Molly McKissick. This year we are thrilled to have her take that class into the second grade!

In her free time, Mrs. Bartow enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, traveling, attending musical theater and relaxing on their boat out on the lake.
