The Siskiyou School faculty of 20 is highly experienced and versatile, well-qualified to bring the best of Waldorf education to its students and carry the pedagogical program of the school. All are imbued with a deep love of teaching and share a commitment to excellence and the ideals of Waldorf education. We have an active mentoring system in place, ensuring that all are learning from each other. Collegiality is very high, with daily sharing of experience, knowledge, support and friendship.
Administrator
As defined by the governance model adopted by The Siskiyou School Board and Faculty in the fall of 2006, the Administrator serves as the point person for the school, supporting the work of each of the schools' three main bodies -- the Board, the Faculty, & the Parents -- and ensuring good communication and effective collaboration among them. The Administrator is supported in the work of the Office by a part-time Office Manager, Development Director, and bookkeeper.
Class Teachers
Our team of class teachers brings together well-seasoned veterans with new, young talent. Two of our teachers have taken more than one class through the eight year cycle. On the other end, we have teachers recently graduated from teacher training, just beginning their own journeys with their classes. Anchoring us in the middle, well-grounded and rounded teachers bring strengths that complement the team. The collective experience, wisdom, and energies form a critical whole in weekly faculty meetings where this group of core teachers works together to hold and guide the pedagogical program of the school.
Specialty Teachers
Specialty subjects are considered an integral part of the Waldorf curriculum, and our specialty teachers are highly skilled and experienced in bringing this vital part of the program to our students. Our Handwork and Games teachers are “program carriers”, fulltime specialty teachers teaching all the children of the school. Our eight part-time subject teachers share responsibility for bringing music, movement, foreign languages (Spanish and Chinese), and the arts (watercolor painting, form drawing, calligraphy) to our students.
Class Assistants
The Siskiyou School has committed to providing extra support for Classes One, Two and Three by funding an assistant position for each of these grades. The assistants spend the full morning in the classroom helping the Class Teacher as needed. Now in the fourth year of this program, our three assistants have gained invaluable hands-on experience and become intimately familiar with Waldorf methodology. They are an integral part of the faculty, participating in all aspects of faculty work.
